The Anti-Boob Masters

Funny, Larry Flint makes billions showing them, the republicans put them in office. But the mom, she is ordered off the beach, out of the mall and out of public view for feeding her child. God forbid! What's next? Showing knees in public? Ankles?

Yes, we as a society are all for breast feeding, it's good for the child and the bonding between mother and child. So, what? She must stay home until the baby starts school?

Food or Lewd?

It seems that no matter how many protests breast-feeding moms stage in support of their rights, there’s always another confrontation right around the corner.

Even though health authorities have said for decades that breast is best for baby, American attitudes about nursing are still heatedly divided. In some cases, women who don't or can't breast-feed are made to feel like they're bad mothers. And those who do breast-feed — and nurse in public — can be the targets of complaints and outrage. Men often don't know what to do in the presence of a nursing mom and other women can be most critical of all.

Due to health reasons, I wasn't allowed to breast feed my children. Oh yeah! The "you suck as a mom" looks are overwhelming, even now, 20 years later. So, what does this mean? Bad moms can go out in public with their children and good moms can't? I don't even understand the "debate". A mom feeding her baby is up for debate? What kind of self richeous society have we become?

For anyone who thinks breast feeding is a sexual thing, you then have never been a mother or a child. Shame on you!

I've never been a mother with a child :) but I have a theory. All these scolds among conservative men never see a woman's breast in a sexual context in their daily lives, so they make up for it by making a big deal out of public breastfeeding. The scolding women are a bit more difficult to explain; perhaps they were frightened by an angry breast in infancy. :)

Remember, we are the society that had a national discussion over Janet Jackson's five-second flash. As one wag said, it might or might not have made a baby hungry. (A friend of mine who is an American woman living permanently in the Netherlands asked me what was wrong with people in America who freaked out over a bit of skin. I reminded her that Europe sent its puritanical types over here several hundred years ago.)

As to what men should do when they encounter women breastfeeding, how about... if there's any reason for communication at all... looking at the women's faces? I've never encountered a nursing woman who could even remotely be described as showing off. This should be easy. Men who make it difficult are, um, real boobs.

I do wonder why these "you can't do that" people don't like the idea of feeding a child?

I've come accross quite a few nursing babies and their moms. Not a single one of the moms showed anything, unless of course you looked for it.

The idea of throwing a mom off a beach, off a plane, out of a mall because their baby is hungry, to me is just ludicrous. These simple minded souls.. if there's flesh there's sex?

Absolutely!!

Boobs? Where? LOL I would say that 99.9% of the women that I have ever come across in my everyday life are very discrete when breast feeding. There are though, like in every other aspect of life, those that just think all you need to do is whip it out and let the child feed. The vast majority of women I've seen usually have had a blanket or towel covering their baby and breast and I doubt anyone has ever given it a second look. I don't see the problem.

I've never been a mother either but have been referred to that way on several occasions. Steve was right about Europe sending their puritanical types over here centuries ago. I live in a state (Maryland) that was founded by displaced Catholics since it was frowned upon in merry ole England to be that religion in 17th century. Believe it or not an awful lot of those religious laws that they put into the books way back when are still there and no one has the guts or good sense to change them. Just for a good laugh, it is a violation of the law in Maryland to engage in sexual relations in any form other than "missionary" position. I guess I should be doing hard time by now LOL
