Building Barriers

Bush's new brilliant idea is building walls around Baghdad, separating the Sunni and Shiite neighborhoods. Once again this administration got it wrong.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Sunday that he has ordered a halt to the construction of a barrier that would separate a Sunni enclave from surrounding Shiite areas in Baghdad, saying there are other ways to protect the neighborhood.

Once again he didn't bother to consider anyone involved. Once again he didn't bother to consult the Iraqi's. Once again, the Iraqi's don't matter.

In his first public comments on the issue, al-Maliki said he had ordered the construction to stop.

"I oppose the building of the wall and its construction will stop," al-Maliki told reporters during a joint news conference with the Secretary-General of the Arab League Amr Moussa in Cairo, Egypt. "There are other methods to protect neighborhoods."

He did not elaborate but added "this wall reminds us of other walls," in an apparent reference to the wall that divided the German city of Berlin during the Cold War.

And, one again, he is reminding me and others of past dictators.

Once again, I will repeat myself and echo the words of the majority of Americans and the Majority of Iraqi's. It's time to get out. It's time to stop occupying their country and it's time to stop forcing and demanding and for God sake Shrub, start acting like an adult and not a spoiled child that needs needs a good ol' fashioned ass whoopin' and a long time out. Or, you just might get it.

They have done this before with no success. It is the definition of insanity after all.

In a way I have to give this walled-community plan its props. I think it merits some admiration as to it goes to the resourcefulness of American imagination, creativity, and savoir faire. Obviously, in addition to risking their last full measure of devotion, our troops are offering Iraqi Sunnis and Shia every last bit of Americana they can think of. But the biggest and overwhelming flaw, of course, is not where the rubber hits the road. It is not in the tactical inventiveness where we fail, but at the strategic-conceptual level. It's about the the concept of an unwelcome invader, destroyer and occupier resolving Iraqi problems.

It's pretty hard to follow the excellent comment by Vigil! Heh heh, spot on!

I used to secretly enjoy village idiots, although I know the mental illness is no laughing matter. This one, your so called leader, has never made me laugh despite of his habit of saying the funniest darn things. What's the worst in his case is, that he was given the most powerful post in the world. The concept of a village idiot being the leader of the free world should be funny as hell, but we all know, that this has not been exactly piss in your pants funny, has it? Maybe it works better in movies?

They need to get onboard with some new thinking on policy both here and in Mexico.
Walls do not solve the problem of violence. Where is the diplomacy, the benefits for the citizens, education, health care, where is the EXIT strategy. These guys only think in terms of razorwire and surge.

Can anyone be suprised with this after the way they have led the country? We are talking about a bunch of anti-humanism asswipes! Their cast system depends on keeping down the ones that they view as a threat to their higher levels of this country. Can you imagine if some peasent actually had some right to speak and talk against them?

We the peasents, have a voice that is given to us by the thing that is called the Constitution. But far be it for us to try and undo what the rich have. The blood-rights to America! A nation that is born upon the backs of lower people, but used and abused by those that gave so little. We the people do not cave into those that wish to ruin our country while being a minority!

It's time to revolt people! Time to storm the Bastille. Get mad and dont let it fade!

I still say we just should have talked Saddam into letting us give every house in Iraq free cable/internet access, put a mcdonalds and a blockbuster video at every major intersection, and instituted an Iraqi Football League draft on all males of 18-24 years old. And we could have traded it all for some phat oil profits.

The one thing the shrubicans can do is build a wall dividing the East from the West. East Germany built a wall, also.

The borders of the Middle East were first divised by Winston Churchhill, but were not recognized by the tribes of the region. This wall must come down like the Berlin Wall. Such obstacles are a reminder of isolation and separation.

The use of obsolete barriers only compounds the problems that plague the three tribes of Iraq and the safety of our ground units.

Shrub! Tear this wall down!

History may be repeating itself, but this is rediculous.
